Days 800~838: Tue., Nov. 22, 2016~Fri., Dec. 30, 2016
It is always great to go “home.” While I am technically homeless, having sold my home in Atlanta prior to starting my travels, Olympia, Washington is where my home and heart will always be. I had a great time with all my family and was able to be there for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was the first time in a year that I stayed in one place for so long and it was a great break from the non-routine routine of travel.
On December 15 my motorcycle arrived from Thailand so I went to Seattle to free it from customs. I must say clearing my bike from customs was the easiest customs clearance I had anywhere on my trip. The customs office was 2 miles from the warehouse where my bike was. I took the paperwork there, they signed it and that was it. They had no need to even see the bike. If only India had been that easy maybe I would still be riding my bike! As it is my bike is safely back in Olympia and parked, awaiting my return when I promise to take it out on a long ride.
On December 31st very early in the morning I got on a plane and took off for Buenos Aires to spend the North American winter in the warmth of summer and sunshine there.
Days 840~920: Sun., Jan. 1, 2017~Wed., Mar. 22, 2017
When I first visited Argentina in January of 2014 I expected it to be my one and only trip to the country. As it turned out, when in March, 2014 I crashed my bike 200 kilometers north of Buenos Aires something pivotal happened. I required surgery for a broken leg immediately and ended up staying in Buenos Aires another 2 weeks. During that time I met a fantastic lady Patricia Bazal that showed me, a complete stranger, so much compassion and heart that I fell in love with her.
I am now back in Buenos Aires for the 3rd straight Argentinian summer. It has been 11 weeks of staying put in one place and I have loved it. During the days I spend some of my time working out trying to get back into shape since that does not happen when I am traveling. I also spend a lot of time on planning the next leg of my journey which starts March 22. Unlike traveling by motorcycle a lot of upfront planning is required when traveling by plane and land. I think this is especially true due to my plans for traveling to all of the Pacific island nations.
It really feels like a normal life with dinners at home and out with friends on the weekends. Going for walks in the park, taking in a movie, enjoying local festivals, going to the theatre for a special night out, learning to Salsa dance, and just watching TV or playing games. But all good things must come to an end and with my goal of traveling to every country in the world still unfulfilled I am off now to check off some more countries from my list.
Thank you Patricia and thank you Buenos Aires for making this “home” for me these 3 months.
